1. Information We Collect
TripVS collects minimal information to provide and improve our service:
- Usage Data: Pages visited, comparisons made, and interaction patterns (collected via PostHog analytics).
- Account Data: If you create an account, we store your email address and saved comparisons.
- Device Information: Browser type, operating system, and screen resolution for service optimization.
- Newsletter Subscriptions: Email address and UTM parameters if you subscribe to our newsletter.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the comparison service.
- To improve our AI-powered cost estimates and user experience.
- To send you trip alerts and updates (only if you opt in).
- To detect and prevent abuse of the platform.
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share anonymized, aggregated usage data with analytics partners. Your comparison queries are processed via third-party AI providers (Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini) — these queries do not contain personally identifiable information.
4. Cookies & Tracking
We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. Analytics cookies (PostHog) help us understand how the site is used. Marketing pixels (Meta, TikTok, Pinterest, GA4) are loaded only after you accept cookies via the consent banner.
You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser's cookies and local storage, or by contacting us. If you decline cookies, PostHog switches to memory-only mode with no persistent tracking.
5. Data Retention
Comparison data is cached for up to 7 days for performance. Account data is retained until you request deletion. Analytics data is retained for up to 12 months. Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe.
6. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Regardless of where you are located, you have the following rights:
- Right to Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data.
- Right to Erasure: Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data.
- Right to Restrict Processing: Limit how we use your data.
- Right to Data Portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to Object: Opt out of analytics tracking at any time via the cookie banner.
- Right to Non-Discrimination (CCPA): We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@tripvs.ai with the subject line “Data Request”. We will respond within 30 days.
Data Deletion: If you have an account, you can request full account and data deletion. Upon request, we will permanently delete your account, saved comparisons, trip reports, poll votes, feedback, newsletter subscriptions, and analytics identifiers within 30 days.
7. AI Processing
When you compare destinations, your query (city names, travel style, duration) is sent to third-party AI providers (Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini) to generate cost estimates. These queries do not include any personally identifiable information such as your name, email, IP address, or account identifier. The AI providers process the query and return structured travel cost data. We do not use your queries to train AI models.
8. Future Features
We are developing a native mobile app and additional features (push notifications, location-based suggestions, receipt scanning). When these features launch, this Privacy Policy will be updated to describe any new data collection. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Mobile app permissions (camera, location, notifications) will be requested individually with clear explanations and can always be denied or revoked.
9. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS with HSTS preload), Content Security Policy headers, Supabase Row-Level Security, server-side input sanitization, rate limiting on all API endpoints, and secure API key management to protect your data.
